....The Shantou Conciliation Center of CCPIT/CCOIC (abbreviated as Shantou conciliation center) is a permanent institution approved by CCPIT and Shantou Municipal Government. Shantou conciliation center independently and impartially assists disputing parties to settle their disputes arising from commercial, maritime and other business by means of conciliation (mediation). Shantou conciliation center consists of the professional from trade, financial and judicial circles and applies the uniform conciliation regulations stipulated by CCPIT and affiliates to CCPIT Conciliation Center.

....The tenet of Shantou conciliation center is to respect the contract articles, refer to international practices so as to bring about mutual concession between parties and help resolve the disputes arising from commercial, maritime and other business on the basis of ascertaining the truth and individual liabilities.

....Business scope of Shantou conciliation center is to settle by means of conciliation (mediation) the disputes arising from trade, finance, investment, intellectual property, technology transfer, construction contract, transportation, insurance and other disputes in commerce and maritime areas.

....The conciliation center system is a non-profit organization and the only permanent network specialized in settlement and conciliation of economic disputes. To meet the deepening of opening-up reform and the development of conciliation service, the CCPIT/CCOIC conciliation center founded in Beijing 1987 has set up conciliation centers within its Sub-council in various province, municipalities and major cities in China and thus created a conciliation network all over the country.

....As one of the effective methods for resolving commercial, maritime and other disputes with its unique feature of being time saving, inexpensive and flexible in procedure, etc., conciliation is increasingly preferred and used by international and domestic business communities. It is assuming an increasingly important role in the business world. In 1987, CCPIT Conciliation Center entered into a Joint-Conciliation Cooperation Agreement with Beijing-Hamburg Conciliation Center located in Hamburg, Germany and worked out with the latter a detailed and complete set of Joint-Conciliation Rules, thus facilitating the settlement of disputes arising between German and Chinese parties by both sides.

....Later, the CCPIT Conciliation Center signed similar cooperation agreements with Argintina-China Conciliation Center and the New York Conciliation Center respectively. The CCPIT Conciliation Center joined the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAL) in 1995 and signed an Agreement for Cooperation in Conciliation (Mediation) with the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) in 1997. The CCPIT Sub-councils' conciliation centers are also broadly making contacts and establishing friendly cooperation relations with conciliation organizations throughout the world.
